Report – Overwatch’s second Archives event is called Retribution, set in Venice and features a new map

The Overwatch Archives event is set to launch on April 10. Fans have been desperate to find any information out about the event. We assume that the event will allow players to tackle the Uprising event from last year, but Blizzard has been teasing more.

Now, it seems that some incredibly exciting information has leaked. The leak comes via a Chinese games journalist who recently visited Blizzard. Posting on Weibo, she revealed the Chinese logo for the event and spoke about a new map. Her posts have since been deleted, but were screenshot beforehand.

After the post on Weibo, on the Chinese game forums, NGA, the image from the Weibo post was shared and we discovered that the Chinese name of the event is “The Action of Venice.”

The mention of Venice is where things get really interesting.

In Moira’s backstory, Venice is an important location and event. After Moira was recruited by Blackwatch, she continued to work with Overwatch as a spy. After something referred to as ‘the Venice Incident’ occurred, she was disavowed.

She received a lifeline in an offer from an unlikely source: Overwatch’s covert ops division, Blackwatch. She continued her work in the shadows while developing new weapons and technologies for the organization.

Her employment was a closely kept secret, until it was uncovered during inquiries following the Venice incident. Many high-ranking Overwatch officials disavowed all knowledge of her affiliation with them

Overwatch – Let’s go to Venice

Considering this information, it seems incredibly likely that the event will focus on the occurrence in Venice.

A new blog post on the Overwatch website also places the event in Europe. The image of a young Jack Morrison above goes with a story about his response to an attack on Oslo, Norway.

OSLO, NORWAY — Global peacekeeping organization Overwatch today* announced it will be conducting a full review of security procedures following a recent attack on their facilities in Oslo, Norway.

At a televised news conference, Commander Jack Morrison stated that a complete investigation of the incident is ongoing, and that at this point it is too early to identify the parties responsible. Morrison issued a stern warning to the perpetrators. “Overwatch will not rest until the ones behind this attack are brought to justice.”

Morrison confirmed that Overwatch has identified a number of suspects behind the strike but declined to provide further details.

In a recent Developer Update video, Jeff Kaplan did confirm that multiple missions will occur in this year’s Uprising event. It was also mentioned that a new skin would be available for “everyone’s favourite Shimada brother.”

Blizzard has promised to reveal more details about Uprising and Retribution during the Overwatch League this week. Make sure you tune in.

Our money is on the Retribution event taking place on a brand-new map set in Venice, a new skin for Moira and more Blackwatch skins for the villainous heroes of Overwatch.
