Star Wars: Battlefront II – How long does it take to unlock Darth Vader?

So, in Battlefront 2, how long does it take to unlock Darth Vader?

Star Wars: Battlefront II is available now for those who pre-ordered the Elite Edition. Those who didn’t only need to wait two more days. But the launch has been anything but smooth.

Fans were upset about the perceived forcing of Microtransactions into the game by publisher EA. They were also concerned about the length of time it would take to unlock some of their favourite characters. Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, chief among them.

Based on the 10-hour EA Access period, Reddit user TheHotterPotato estimated it would take players 40+ hours to earn enough credits to unlock Luke Skywalker of Darth Vader. In response to the overwhelmingly negative reaction by fans, EA announced a 75% reduction in the cost of in-game unlocks.

Now, instead of 60,000 for Luke or Darth Vader, the cost is only 15,000. It’s a drastic reduction, but does it make a big enough difference in the time taken to unlock? Let’s take a look.

Battlefront II – How long to unlock Darth Vader?

Having access to two Elite Editions, we at PowerUp! decided to run our own experiment to determine how long it would take. Two players played a number of multiplayer matches in Galactic Conquest mode. We timed how long the matches took and how many credits we earned in each.

After we had a big enough sample size, we worked out that, on average, a game of Galactic Conquest takes 12-minutes. In that time players would earn an average of 270 credits. Based on these figures we determined it would take one hour to earn 1,350 credits.

At 1,350 credits earned per hour, it would take just over 11-hours to unlock Darth Vader who costs 15,000 credits. However, there are other factors at play. Credits are also earned through Loot Crates and from completing milestones. By the time I had earned 15,000 credits, I had earned 3,500 from Loot Crates and 2,700 from challenges. A total of 6,200.

With additional credits being earned outside matches, I only needed 8,800 credits to unlock Darth Vader. Based on the average time-to-credit ratio as demonstrated above it would take 6.5 hours to earn 8,800 exclusively playing Galactic Assault.

In the end, it took me about 5.5 hours to earn enough credits to unlock Darth Vader. But this isn’t an exact measurement. The number of credits earned through playing, from Loot Crates and for milestones will vary from player to player. If you’re completing more milestones then you’ll be earning more Credits. If you’re playing other modes, you may be earning less.

The issue is that there’s no way to definitively measure how long it takes to unlock Darth Vader or any of the characters for that matter. It took only 5-hours for me to unlock Darth Vader, but you may do it far quicker or it may take longer. That being said, it shouldn’t take any longer than 7-hours at the most.

Make sure you’re completing milestones and redeeming them from the Career menu. That way your tally will always be increasing.

There you have it. In Star Wars: Battlefront II how long does it take to unlock Darth Vader? About 6-hours. But it could be less and it could be more.

Star Wars: Battlefront II is available now for those who-preordered the Elite Edition. It will launch widely on November 17.
