The Jetpack arrives in Fortnite at 10pm tonight

After all the waiting and hoping and praying, Epic Games is finally adding the Jetpack to Fortnite with update 4.2. The update arrives at 10 pm tonight, May 22 AEST, 8 am May 22 ET.

Epic has advised that there will be no downtime while the Content Update is applied. Other than the Jetpack, it’s not clear as yet as to what will be included in the v4.2 update. Rumours and speculation have claimed that a new competitive playlist will launch.

Data-miners discovered the imminent release of the Jetpack and the competitive playlist, though whether the information discovered is accurate remains to be seen. The information that was discovered regarding the Jetpack seemed to suggest it would appear in a limited time event called ‘Close Encounters.’

Close Encounters is described as follows;

Close Quarters combat with Shotguns & Jetpacks! If you find a Jetpack, double tap the jump button to take off. Keep the button held to apply thrust.

Make sure to land before it runs out of fuel!

The Jetpack was originally supposed to arrive in February but was removed at the last minute. Epic Games instead released the Hunting Rifle in the Jetpack’s place. Epic Games said at the time;

This week’s new item is being changed from the Jetpack to the Hunting Rifle.

We found a last minute design issue with the Jetpack that’s going to delay its launch and we’re working on correcting it.

The Jetpack will lift off at a later time.

Meanwhile, you’ll be able to enjoy lots of no-scopes with the new Hunting Rifle item and a new, lucky point of interest on the map.

At the time of writing, there are only 10.5 hours to go before the content update, so not long until you can take to the air like the Rocketeer.
