Acer updates the Predator Triton 500 and Nitro 5 gaming notebooks with 10th Gen Intel processors

Acer’s Predator Triton 500 is one of the best gaming laptops to date and the company has updated it with Intel’s new 10th Gen Intel Core processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX Supergraphics. Acer is also treating its budget Nitro 5 with the new hardware including new 144Hz displays with 3ms latency.

The new models remain largely unchanged in the aesthetics department but Acer is touting a brand new cooling solution across both laptops. James Lin, General Manager of Acer Notebooks & IT Products Business says they’ve applied new thermal technology which keeps the devices cool.

The Acer Vortex Flow technology is a new design that uses three custom-engineered fans strategically placed in the chassis. The fans work in tandem to increase the airflow while reducing overall fan noise. Acer says the new Triton 500 enjoys up to 45% more airflow and 33% better thermal performance than the 2019 model.

The Acer Nitro 5 also enjoys better cooling — up to 25% improvement in thermal performance over the outgoing model. Both laptops give users control over monitoring and adjustment by using the PredatorSense UI app for Windows.

The new Triton 500 house 10th Gen Intel Core processors and up to
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super or 2070 Super with Max–Q Design for graphics. Acer has mated this with its 300 Hz IPS panel which covers 100% of the sRGB colour gamut and wider viewing angles. The Triton 500 also comes with NVIDIA G-Sync so your games and that super-fast display can play nicely with each other.

Storage options include up to 2TB of NVMe, SSD storage in a
RAID 0 configuration. Memory goes up to 32GB of DDR4 which is great for users who want to do heavy video and photo editing work. As with many new laptops announced this month, the Triton 500 comes with Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i wireless controller and an E3100G ethernet controller.

The refreshed Nitro 5 gets up to a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 and graphics options are limited to GeForce RTX 2060 or GTX 1650ti and 1650 GPUs. When it comes to storage, the Nitro 5 can accommodate up to two M.2 PCIe SSDs and a 1TB hard drive for storage. Memory tops out at 32GB of DDR4 RAM which should be more than most people need.

Acer chose to go with a 15.6-inch FHD IPS display with 144Hz or 120Hz refresh. The panels are 72% NTSC colour and a peak brightness of 300 nits. For wireless, the Nitro 5 goes with an Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 (802.11ax) and Killer Ethernet E2600.

Price and availability

Acer has not yet revealed there is no exact price or availability for the new Triton 500 or Nitro 5. However, sales are expected to begin in North America in May with the Triton 500 starting at USD $2,199 and the Nitro 5 starting at USD $749.
