After yesterday’s official reveal of Rage 2 via a live-action trailer, Bethesda has today released a first-look at Rage 2 gameplay. The trailer focuses on a broad view of the features of Rage 2, rather than giving fans an in-depth look at any one thing in particular.
Along with the gameplay trailer, Bethesda has provided some additional details on the setting and story of Rage 2. A handful of hi-res screenshots have also been released.
Just like the live-action trailer, the Rage 2 gameplay trailer has an oddly comedic, post-apocalyptic, neon punk vibe. Rage 2 looks as though it’s a combination of Borderlands, Fallout, Mad Max and Sunset Overdrive.

Bethesda’s description of Rage 2 is as follows;
You’ll dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order. You can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything.
The game brings together two studio powerhouses – Avalanche Studios, masters of open world mayhem and id Software, gods of the first-person shooter – to deliver a carnival of carnage
Rage 2 is set in the year 2185 with more than 80% of earth’s population having been annihilated by an asteroid. Society has entirely broken down, gangs roam the wastelands and a mysterious and tyrannical group known as the Authority seek to impose order.
Players step into the road-weary boots of the Walker; last Ranger of the wasteland. Both the gangs and the Authority see the Walker as a threat and will stop at nothing to stop you in your tracks.

Bethesda is calling Rage 2 a shooterverse thanks to the combination of development teams; id Software and Avalanche Studios.
Avalanche is well known for its development of open-world games including Just Cause and Mad Max while id is master of the shooter genre. The open-world created by Avalanche will be fully explorable and filled with intense action thanks to id’s shooter mechanics.
The open-world isn’t all desert and wasteland either. Bethesda has revealed that players will be able to explore jungles, swamps, deserts and more. You won’t need to walk everywhere though, with vehicles and vehicular combat forming a key pillar of Rage 2 gameplay.
Players will be able to travel by ground and air in monster trucks, gyrocopters, dune buggies and more. As the last Ranger, players will have access to a ridiculous cache of weapons and some truly super-human powers. Overdrive allows the Ranger to push guns beyond their mechanical limits.
Finally, as the Ranger, players will need to fight against a range of factions which each include their own rogue’s gallery, mutants, bosses and monsters.
Rage 2 has been confirmed for PC, PS4 and Xbox One and will be available in 2019. Bethesda has announced that Rage 2 will be the focus of its E3 press conference. All-new gameplay details will be revealed on June 11 at 11.30 am AEST.
