Morrowind coming to Xbox One via backwards compatibility, 4K enhanced on Xbox One X

Xbox One’s backwards compatibility is definitely something that sets Microsoft’s console apart from the PS4. We now know that The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is coming to Xbox One.

It’s also received enhancements on Xbox One X to display in 4K.

What a time to be alive!

Morrorwind available on Xbox One

Morrowind is the third entry in the Elder Scrolls series and was released for PC in May 2002 and the original Xbox in November of that same year.

Morrowind was an incredibly ambitious title at the time of its release and was hugely reduced from its original vision. Morrowind was such a large project for Bethesda that it estimated it had taken 100-man years to develop.

The Xbox release was well received at the time and sold very well, remaining in the top 10 games on the system even after a year from on from release.

Morrowind on Xbox may very well have been the first exposure for many console gamers to Bethesda’s franchise. A franchise that would go on to become a staple of consoles for the next decade.

Xbox One X Enhancements

As the tweet above mentions, with the addition of Morrowind, Xbox One players can now access three of The Elder Scrolls’ titles; Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.

What makes the release of Morrowind even better on Xbox One are the Xbox One X enhancements including a resolution improved by 16x above the original and 16x anisotropic filtering.

The visuals have aged since 2002, but the gameplay is still top notch and Morrowind is definitely an excellent entry in the franchise, perhaps only bested by Skyrim

You can find Morrowind on the Xbox Store.
