You can play as a female or male character in Far Cry 6

The hero of Far Cry 6, Dani Rojas, will be available as either female or male for players when it launches in 2021. Dani is “a local Yaran swept up in a revolution against Antón Castillo.” In the trailer we saw, Castillo looks to control Yara with an iron fist which won’t be easy to overthrow.

Ubisoft says players will become a “guerrilla fighter” as Dani and will have the freedom to fully explore Yara. This includes jungles, cities and more.

Being able to play as either a female or male character was introduced in Far Cry 5, however, in that game, players were an unnamed Deputy. Players created their own blank slate character in the former game, where in Far Cry 6, Dani is a fully-fleshed out character regardless of gender.

Pre-orders and the various editions of the game come with different packs which give both versions of Dani costumes/skins, weapons and more. The Croc Hunter Pack makes both Danis look like Crocodile Dundee, the Vice Pack gives them the sleek, dazzling veneer of the 1980s and the Jungle Expedition pack makes them look like the hunter from Jumanji.

Gender diversity and representation is something Ubisoft games have been criticised for in the past, most famously in Assassin’s Creed Unity. However, in recent years, the developer and publisher has offered choice in protagonists in most of its titles.

Far Cry 6 launches on February 18, 2021.
