The Batman has started filming, cast announced

The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson and directed by Matt Reeves has begun principal photography. Reeves, known for directing the rebooted Planet of the Apes films, and Pattinson, known for Twilight, will work alongside some talented actors to bring Gotham to life.

Pattinson stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman and will be joined by Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Alfred and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin.

Interestingly, Jayme Lawson will be playing a character names Bella Reál. This is a character that does not exist in the Batman canon and is either a new character or is using an alias.

The Batman

The Batman is being produced by Reeves and Dylan Clark, who both worked on Planet of the Apes. Reeves is also using an Oscar-nominated team including Director of Photography Greig Fraser — Lion — Oscar-winning VFX supervisor Dan Lemmon; The Jungle Book.

Other talent working on the film includes people who have worked on Rise of Skywalker, 1917, Little Women, No Time to Die and Spectre.

Details on the plot of this film are scant, however, it was originally going to star Ben Affleck as Batman with him also taking on producer and director duties. Affleck left in 2019 and was replaced by Pattinson. Director Reeves has stated that this film will focus more on the detective aspect of the character.

The Batman is being designed to kickstart a new trilogy of films and will be released on June 24, 2021.
