Learn about the story, artwork and inspirations for Trine 4 in the latest video

Trine 4 launches in less than a month and Modus Games has continued its behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the game. Taking a trip to Frozenbyte’s studios in Finland, Modus chats with the studio’s writer, art director, producer, and vice president. Featuring exclusive footage, this latest video gives fans a look at the story and artwork of the Trine series.

As the fourth chapter in the franchise, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince builds on the existing world. The behind-the-scenes video teaches fans about the overarching story of Trine.

Additionally, Frozenbyte artists explain how Finnish flora and fauna serve as inspiration for the environments in the game.

In the video, below, Frozenbyte gives fans a glimpse at concept art for the Trine series, giving some context to what players see as a finished product. There’s also quick look at two work in progress boss battles. As mentioned, the video also details the real-world inspiration for Trine 4’s art.

Drawing inspiration from Finland’s stunning wilderness, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince’s lush environments deliver an enchanting array of surreal vistas.

But, the beauty of these vibrant lands is overcast by Prince Selius’ evocations, which are spreading a foreboding, violet-tinted darkness with their menacing presence.

After a dalliance with 3D in Trine 3, Trine 4 marks a return to 2D side-scrolling for the franchise. The latest entry allows for four-player co-op and includes dynamically shifting puzzles based on how many people are playing.

We recently went hands-on with Trine 4; read about it here.

Trine 4 is launching on October 8 as a standalone game or as part of the Trine: Ultimate Collection. Digital pre-orders for Trine 4 and Ultimate Collection are now open on PS4, Xbox One, Steam and GOG.

By pre-ordering the Ultimate Collection on PS4, players will get instant access to the first three games to start playing right away.

All digital pre-orders will also gain access to a bonus level at launch.
