Report – Spyro Reignited Trilogy was delayed in order to include all three games on disc

Fans were understandably upset this week when it was announced that Spyro Reignited Trilogy was delayed. Spyro fans have had a rough time recently, with it also being discovered that physical copies of the remake would only include the first game.

Those fans who purchased a physical copy of Spyro Reignited Trilogy would need to download the second and third games. This upset many players who were concerned that they may not be able to play the full Reignited Trilogy without an internet connection.

Now, sources close to the development say that Toys for Bob successfully convinced Activision to delay Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The reasons? A better, more polished game overall and to include all three games on-disc.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy On-Disc Delay

After news of the download requirements broke, Activision released a statement reading;

The global launch date of Spyro Reignited Trilogy is September 21 and we’re excited for fans to play all three reignited games on that day. As with most games today, downloading an update after purchase is quite common.

The language on the packaging and on the web is to let players know the requirements for Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

When the delay was announced by Toys for Bob, the blog post by Co-Studio Head Paul Yan read;

We’re deeply committed to getting these games right, so we’ve decided to move the release date of Spyro Reignited Trilogy to November 13, 2018. I really hoped that you would be rescuing dragons and scorching Rhynocs sooner, but the Trilogy needs more love and care.

The reasons for the delay were ambiguous but as more information comes to light, the reasons for the delay become clearer.

In a video posted by YongYea he claims that an anonymous source advised him that the delay would be coming. The source also claimed that the reason for not including all three games on the disc was so Toys for Bob had sufficient time to finish all three games.

The anonymous source states that Toys for Bob initially requested a delay, but Activision refused. According to the source, the first two titles of the Reignited Trilogy are nearly complete, but that work on the third game was still a long way from being finished.

In another meeting with Activision, Toys for Bob argued that it was rushing the development of the Trilogy and wanted to include all three games on-disc. Activision was swayed by the arguments and agreed to delay the game.

There’s been no official announcement that all three games will now appear on-disc, but hopefully, with the additional time, Toys for Bob can get it done.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy will launch for PS4 and Xbox One on November 13.
