PS4 sales in April broke software and hardware records

PS4 Sales for April have broken longstanding sales records for both software and hardware in the period thanks to the release of God of War.

We recently reported that PS4 hardware sales were more than double those of the Xbox One and Switch combined for April 2018. Now with the latest NPD data being revealed, it’s clear that April 2018 has been an incredible month for the PlayStation brand.

PS4 sales for software in April 2018 set an all-time record for any platform since data started being tracked in 1995. The previous record was held by Xbox 360 and was set in April 2008.

PS4 Sales

As for hardware, the PS4 broke sales records for the month of April. The PS4 was the best selling console in April and is also the best selling console for the year.

PS4 sales for April surpassed both the number of units sold by Wii in 2009 and the highest sales dollars since the Wii in 2008. What’s even more impressive is that the Wii was in an earlier stage of its life cycle than the PS4, which is now in its fifth year.

PS4 Pro also saw a sales bump in April thanks to the God of War bundle.

According to the NPD data the best selling games, year to date, in the United States are;

  1. Far Cry 5
  2. Monster Hunter: World
  3. God of War 2018
  4. Call of Duty: WWII
  5. Dragon Ball: Fighterz
  6. Grand Theft Auto V
  7. NBA 2K18
  8. MLB 18: The Show
  9. Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds
  10. Mario Kart 8

Digital sales are not accounted for in these numbers and given that God of War is a console exclusive to PS4, its position in third place is pretty darn incredible.

Overall, software and hardware sales are up, but the real story is that PS4 is absolutely killing it this year.
