The Evil Within 2 first person mode gets you even closer to the horror

The Evil Within 2 first person mode isn’t restricted to just one section anymore. Tango Gameworks has patched the title to officially give The Evil Within 2 first person support.

According to a blog post by Bethesda eager fans discovered that the existing first person sequence in the game could be extended to other areas not initially intended. The community loved playing The Evil Within 2 first person mode so much that it begged Tango Gameworks for official support.

The developers heard the fans request and has now released a patch to give The Evil Within 2 first person support.

How to access The Evil Within 2 first person mode

Once The Evil Within 2 has been updated to the latest version, players can access first person mode from the options menu. As seen in the gif above, simply enter the pause menu and under the General tab scroll down to enable or disable The Evil Within 2 first person mode.

Producer Shinsaku Ohara spoke about the implementation of The Evil Within 2 first person mode and why it makes such a difference to the game.

We experimented a bit with first-person in the full game, but it was more of an afterthought and a little bit of playing around on our side, since we designed the game in third-person.

Some savvy users figured out a way to activate this mode outside of its intended area, and the reaction to it was pretty positive, so we said, ‘What the heck. Let’s put it in as a bonus for all platforms.’

A first person perspective isn’t something new to horror games, nor survival horror. Resident Evil took the leap into first person last year with Resident Evil 7.

Ohara notes that lots of players enjoy the thrill of being so up close to the action adding;

“For those who want to see some of the game’s situations through Sebastian’s eyes, it’s a really neat experience.”

Scarier than ever

Ohara believes that The Evil Within 2 first person mode was well worth the effort, but stressed that players shouldn’t compare it to games designed as first person titles.

We like to think of it as a “high-level hack” so we don’t want people to compare this with DOOM or anything like that.

There were some scenes that just didn’t work, so it jumps back and forth a bit to third-person. But we made sure the game’s an enjoyable experience and hopefully people will enjoy playing in this mode.

Exploring Union in first person allows players to see just how big the area is as compared to the third person perspective according to Ohara. He also thinks that The Evil Within 2 first person mode will let players see just how much detail and design work went into the environments and enemies.

The Evil Within 2 first person mode is a free update for all players. Even those who’ve not purchase The Evil Within 2 can play a free trial, which includes the first person mode.

All save data from the free trial will carry over if a purchase is made.

The Evil Within 2 is now available.
