Phil Spencer announces Microsoft will bring Call of Duty to Nintendo and Steam for 10-years

The ongoing saga of the merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard King continues today with Head of Xbox Phil Spencer taking to Twitter to announce Call of Duty will continue to be released on both Nintendo platforms and Steam for 10 years.

The proposed merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard King has been ongoing for much of 2022 with PlayStation opposed to the deal. The merger is being considered by regulatory bodies across the US, UK and Europe with both Microsoft and PlayStation pleading their cases for and against.

Recently, Microsoft offered PlayStation a 10-year agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation consoles. Now, it looks as though Microsoft is ramping up the pressure by announcing the 10-year commitment with both Nintendo and Steam.

It’s been reported that the US Federal Trade Commission is likely to challenge the merger by filing an antitrust lawsuit. Both PlayStation and Microsoft have been downplaying their respective stable of games and studios of late in what appears to be an effort to sway public opinion (and perhaps regulators) on the impact of the merger.

The announcement by Phil Spencer today is indeed significant and will certainly ratchet up the pressure on PlayStation even more.
