Games That Will Never Go Out of Style

There are some games that are so bad that they are almost unplayable. Bad Street Brawler, 50 Cent: Bulletproof, and Duke Nukem Forever being prime examples of these terrible releases.

However, there are also others that become classics and live on forever. How many hours have you spent playing Mario games, Fortnite, or Red Dead Redemption? These are the types of games that you can go back to time and again, and still have as much fun as when you first bought the game.

These are the types of game that will never go out of style, even when their graphics look a bit outdated or they’ve been superseded by countless sequels. Here are a few of those games.

Grand Theft Auto V

GTA is one of the most recognised, talked about, and played games franchises ever to be released. The franchise’s latest title, Grand Theft Auto V was released way back in 2013. This was a time before the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, yet it continues to be enjoyed by millions of people around the world.

Rockstar Games didn’t try to hide the fact that GTA V was going to be primarily focused on online multiplayer options, but it still put together a solid single-player game. This has been an excellent strategy for them, as GTA Online continues to be one of the most popular multiplayer games across the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

Like the other games in the franchise, it’s likely GTA V will be played and loved for decades to come.

Poker

Poker is considerably older than the other games on this list, making it a classic among classics. It is hundreds of years old, yet continues to be popular right across the world, with an appeal to every generation.

Like retro video games being ported to new platforms, poker has been released in many formats. Of course, you can still play it with a deck of cards with your friends or in a land-based casino, but poker is also available on many games consoles, and nowadays, big names from the industry have even released their own versions on mobile devices like Android smartphones.

Super Mario

In the 39 years since Mario first appeared in a Donkey Kong arcade game, everyone’s favourite Italian plumber has found himself in 253 different titles.

Some of the most popular games from the Mario franchise have been the several Mario Kart titles, Super Mario 64, and New Super Mario Bros, all of which have become classics in their own right.

However, the recent release of Super Mario Maker 2 helped add a completely new dimension to this classic Nintendo title. It allows people to design their own Super Mario levels and share them with friends. It spawned a craze with people trying to make the most difficult Mario level ever.

It seems Nintendo has a well-loved character that will continue to be very profitable for them for a long time.

Sonic

With the recent release of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, we’re reminded of another classic gaming character who will always be in style. Sonic is to SEGA as Mario is to Nintendo. A hero character that has been loved by gamers for generations, and looks set to continue to be so.

Sonic hasn’t performed as well as Mario in more recent years, but he’s still helped drive video game sales.

The classic titles were all very similar: run along a 2D scrolling world, jump on some bad guys, and collect some coins. However, there have been some other unique games to feature everyone’s favourite blue hedgehog.

Sonic Spinball was designed to capitalise on the popularity of other pinball games released at the time. It turned Sonic into the ball, which you hit with the huge flippers. He too has had his own racing titles, but some of the original titles like Sonic the Hedgehog for the Genesis are still the most loved.
