Bang & Olufsen makes some of the most opulent audio equipment in the world and now it has added to its reputation with the all-new Beosound 1 New York Edition. It’s a limited edition, portable, wireless Bluetooth speaker that features a ‘unique and beautiful graduation in colour’. The gradient moves from a piano black to natural aluminium which B&O says ‘is intended to capture the ascendant energy of the iconic New York City skyline.’
A unique patent-pending process is used to create the colour gradient of the Beosound 1 New York Edition which is made at Bang & Olufsen’s industry-leading aluminium factory.
The extruded aluminium parts are milled, polished, and anodised. The parts then undergo a second round of mechanical processing, during which Bang & Olufsen’s surface specialists carefully create a smooth gradient effect on the aluminium.

Because of this highly labour intensive build process, Bang and Olufsen will make only 1200 units of the Beosound 1 New York Edition which will add to its air of opulence and exclusivity. But it’s more than just a work of art, it’s a capable speaker packed with the latest technology.
The Beosound 1 New York Edition outputs a 360-degree dispersion of sound that to an acoustic lens housed in the top of the speaker which creates an evenly distributed sound. Its conical aluminium body hovers slightly above the surface allowing for rich bass to flow from beneath.
Google Assistant is also baked into the Beosound 1 New York Edition, bringing voice-activated controls to the speaker. Bang & Olufsen has built-in acoustic echo-cancelling technology and five microphones into the speaker so that it can easily separate voice commands from other sounds.
Also included is Google Chromecast, Apple Airplay and Bluetooth making this a highly versatile speaker. The built-in rechargeable battery is rated at 12 hours of playback time.
The Beosound 1 New York Edition will be available in limited numbers from September 2019 at Bang & Olufsen stores and retail for $2,750 Australian.
