Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is all about Tonics

Playtonic Games’ follow-up to Yooka-LayleeYooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair — is launching next month. Playtonic and Team17 have released a new trailer for the 2D sidescroller focusing on the Tonics in the game and what effects they have on the gameplay. Tonics make a return from Yooka-Laylee and there are over 60 to collect.

While Tonics in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair affect gameplay, they can also be mixed and matched to create environmental and visual changes.

Exploring Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair takes place in 2.5D with a 3D overworld.

Yooka-Laylee Tonics

With pre-orders open for the game, there are four exclusive cosmetic Tonics up for grabs. These come in the form of Trowzer’s Top Tonic Pack and include;

  • Largee Head tonic: This tonic gives Laylee a comically oversized head
  • Glow Worm tonic: Yooka and Laylee glow like… well, glow worms
  • D.I.S.C.O. tonic: Turn every level into a platforming party of Playtonic proportions
  • Yooka 64: A blast from the past Tonic for fans of all things retro

Gavin Price, Managing Director & Creative Lead at Playtonic Games said;

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair takes the 2D platforming genre, mixes it up with a 3D world to explore and injects it with the unique humour that Playtonic is known for.

Bringing Tonics back in all-new flavours (they’re now combinable!) will give the community millions of ways to play the game and we can’t wait to see the results online!

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will be available for PS4, Switch and Xbox One on October 8, 2019.
