Gears 5 Collectibles Guide – Act 1, Chapter 3

Gears of War fans have plenty of reason to be excited as Gears 5 is here. Starring Kait Diaz, Del Walker, JD Fenix and, of course, Marcus Fenix, the latest entry in the franchise continues the story established in Gears of War 4. Set 25-years or so after Gears of War 3, it was revealed that the Locust didn’t die and had instead evolved into the Swarm.

In Gears 5, Kait is seeking answers to her lineage, especially her connection to the Locust. Humanity is facing all-out war with the Swarm and maybe figuring out who Kait is, holds the key to stopping the Swarm once and for all.

As is standard in Gears of War, Gears 5 has collectibles for players to find in most chapters.

This guide is for Act 1, Chapter 3 – This is War.

Gears 5 Collectibles

The first collectible in chapter 3 is hard to miss. Right after you get back on your feet after the Juvies attack you’ll have to follow Del, Katia and Fahz.

As you make your way out of this first room, hug the left wall and you’ll come across a downed COG. Grab their COG tags for your first collectible.

Make your way through the level and you’ll eventually go upstairs and into some offices. There are plenty of desks and tables all the way throughout.

You’re looking for a desk between two posters for The New Ephyran. It’s in the back corner of one of the offices and on the right-hand side of this desk is a magazine with Jinn on the cover.

Keep going into you get to some more offices with broken walls/windows that look over the streets outside. On a desk, in front of a computer, on the left-hand side of the room, facing the windows, you’ll find your next collectible.

This one is Seditious Literature. It references the Settlement 2 massacre and it’s a pamphlet about resisting the COG.

Keep going through the level until you reach the apartment where some COG and civilians are holed up.

Inside the apartment, before you head out, on your left-hand side is an open door into a bedroom. You should be able to see a side table and some hanging clothes.

On the side table is a welcome package for Settlement 2. Grab it.

After you leave the apartment you’ll have to fight off a huge group of Swarm, including some pouncers. Once they’re all taken care of you’re able to proceed through some gates to keep going.

Before you do, go to the very far end of this street section to the building where the snipers were. Go upstairs and find the drawers next to a stove and with some kettles on top.

Go all the way over to it and you’ll be able to grab the next collectible, sneakily hidden in a drawer.

Continue through the level and you’ll come to a section where you’ll need to pass through a crashed condor.

It should be impossible to miss this collectible as you’ll walk right over it, but just in case. Right next to the dead COG are some COG tags.

Grab them and continue on your way.

The last collectible is located in a book shop. As you near the end of the chapter, you’ll come to a quiet intersection with some shops and buildings. Head around to the book shop and go inside.

In the centre of the room is a display with two reading statues and a globe. Go around the far side of the display and you’ll be able to grab the book.

That’s all for Act 1, Chapter 3.

Gears 5 is available on PC and Xbox One.
