Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers – New Role Quests Shine a Light on the Heroes of the First

While in attendance at the Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers preview event in London, I was given an overview of the content coming to the MMO. In addition, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida gave some detailed information regarding changes coming to the game.

As Shadowbringers takes place in a new realm, the First, Yoshida explained that learning about the Lore of the First and its fallen heroes would take place via all-new Role Quests.

Role Quests are designed to give players a history of the First as well as retracing the steps of those fallen heroes.

Shadowbringers Role Quests

In Shadowbringers there will be four sets of Role Quests. These are aligned to Physical DPS, Magical DPS, Tank and Healer roles. The Shadowbringers Role Quests aren’t just to give narrative colour and background for the First though.

They’re important to the overall narrative of the expansion. In fact, players won’t be able to complete the main campaign without finishing at least one of the Shadowbringers Role Quests.

Players who worry that Role Quests will replace Job Quests, have no fear. Job Quests will still have a role to play in Shadowbringers and both the Gunbreaker and Dancer will have Job Quests from level 60 to 70.

Role Quests are a great way for players to learn about the First without having to do a deep dive into the game’s lore or by being forced to complete dozens of quests specifically related to the past. Shadowbringers is about the end of the world from the Flood of Light and not the history of the First.

That being said, it’s nice to be able to learn about the realm, its history and its heroes through the new Role Quests.
