Samsung announced a pair of gaming monitors at the recently concluded Gamescom 2018 in Cologne, Germany last week. The announced monitors are the Samsung CJG5 series and are available in two sizes.
The Samsung CJG5 series monitors come in 27 and 32–inch sizes. A 1800R curved VA panel provides a wider field of view and deeper immersion into your games. Samsung says it also reduces eye fatigue.
A 16:9 WQHD resolution of 2560×1440 pixels makes the CJG5 is twice as sharp as regular 1080p monitors. Add a wicked fast 144Hz refresh rate and 4ms input lag for a buttery smooth response.

Inputs include a DisplayPort 1.3 for PCs and Laptops. Two HDMI ports, 2.0 and 1.4, allow Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners to also connect. This is great for gamers who have a desk set up with a PC and console.
A neat feature handed down from Samsung TVs is picture modes. Selecting game or cinema mode automatically optimize the black gamma level, contrast, sharpness and saturation for any genre of games and movies. No more fiddling about to calibrate when switching from work to play.
Notably absent is HDR and either G-sync or FreeSync. This makes sense as Samsung wants to keep the price down.
Price and availability
The Samsung CJG5 is being positioned as affordable gaming monitors. Prices for Australia are still unknown at the time of writing this article. Amazon US lists a price of $399.99 USD for the 32-inch model.
This converts to $500-550 Australian price, which is a steal for such a monitor. We will be watching this one closely so check back for details as we get them.
