Pokemon Switch – First Details and Images

The rumours were true. Pokemon Switch is Pokemon Let’s GO! Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s GO! Eevee. At the Pokemon press conference today, Nintendo confirmed both games were coming to Nintendo Switch on November 16.

Both Pokemon Let’s Go! titles feature some amazing new features, that combine both traditional Pokemon mechanics and those found in Pokemon Go!

Pokemon Switch Details

First of all, players are able to play Pokemon Let’s GO! with a single Joy-Con. Doing so is easy and allows players to explore the game-world and catch Pokemon.

Players catch Pokemon the same way they do in Pokemon GO!, by throwing a Poke Ball by using the motion controls in the Joy-Con and mimicking a throwing motion.

Pokemon Let’s GO! will also let players play co-op in a Pokemon RPG for the very first time. A second player is able to join in by simply shaking a second Joy-Con. When in co-op, players can team up to catch Pokemon together.

Like Pokemon GO! players will need to hit a Pokemon with a Poke Ball within a shrinking circle to get Ok, Great or Excellent throw stats. In the trailer (below) we can see in co-op that both players seem to need to hit within the circle to get the catch bonus.

Pokemon Let’s GO! can also be played with a special Poke Ball peripheral. The Poke Ball includes an analogue stick and players can move around and interact with the game world just like with a Joy-Con. The Poke Ball also appears to have motion sensing tech within it as players also catch Pokemon by mimicking a throwing motion.

The Poke Ball peripheral can also be used to store a Pokemon from within the game who can then be taken for a walk. Whether this levels up the Pokemon’s stats remains to be seen, but it seems likely.

Finally, Pokemon Let’s GO! and Pokemon GO! can be linked and players can send Pokemon from one to the other. When sending from Pokemon GO!, the Pokemon appears in the GO Park. It’s not clear at this stage if Pokemon in the GO Park can be used within the RPG as per normal Pokemon caught within the game.

At the end of the trailer, we see that players are teased with meeting a special Pokemon by using Pokemon Let’s GO! and Pokemon GO! together.

Interestingly, it seems like only the first 150 Pokemon will appear in Pokemon Let’s GO! Like Pokemon GO!, Nintendo will likely roll out updates introducing new Pokemon over time.

Pokemon Let’s GO! Pikachu and Pokemon Let’s GO! Eevee will be available for Switch from November 16, 2018.
