We Happy Few Refused Classification in Australia

Yesterday, the Australian Classification Board decided Compulsion Games’ We Happy Few was Refused Classification in Australia. The decision to Refuse Classification is very broad and the actual reasons have not been revealed.

In the Board’s listing online, it states;

The computer game is classified RC in accordance with the National Classification Code, Computer Games Table, 1. (a) as computer games that “depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified.”

It’s not clear exactly which parts of the Code We Happy Few breaks. As the decision lists the entire code and includes sex, drug misuse, addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena as potential reasons to Refuse Classification, we’d need more information from the Board as to why We Happy Few received the RC.

We Happy Few was scheduled for release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One and was available on Xbox One in Early Access, however, the Microsoft Store listing now simply says ‘Coming Soon.’

We’ve reached out to Gearbox for more information.

If you were looking forward to We Happy Few, looks like bad luck for now.
