Hands on with Far Cry 5 Preview

Ubisoft was out in force at PAX. Boasting hands-on experiences with upcoming titles like Assassins Creed: Origins, South Park: The Fractured But Whole and The Crew 2. Tthe main attraction was the Far Cry 5 preview though. Offering just a pinch of time with the game queues were long but oh so worth it.

Far Cry 5: On the showroom floor

Far Cry 5

Every new iteration of Far Cry blows me away graphically. Running on the PS4 Pro, Far Cry 5 looks great. Smoke, dust and rubble flying around the chaotic battlefield were awesome. The textures and lighting effects looked and acted so realistically. Everything looked incredible.

In terms of gameplay, it’s going to be a Far Cry game. You’re going to start a rebellion, lead a rebellion, dismantle a rebellion and then save just yourself, after all, is said and done.

And I can’t wait!

Maybe because unlike many other FPS, Far Cry 5 is set in a semi-current and very believable American town. Maybe it’s because it has a fishing mini-game within it that’s better than some actual fishing games.

I can’t wait to catch myself an 80-pound catfish. Either way, Far Cry 5 is great so far. It felt, even more, fun and a lot easier to become invested in than it’s predecessor; Far Cry 4.

Rule #32: The little things

Far Cry 5

Small things made me smile. Watching the Vaas bobblehead bounce around in my semi truck as I ran down a group of cultists. Throwing my 3rd grenade before realising that I was a redneck and I was throwing dynamite. Running all around a fish pond chasing the ripples of a rather large catfish that got away from me.

If only I could combine the dynamite with the fishing. I would have been in business.

Using the baseball bat felt a bit slow, but I’ve never liked Far Cry’s melee. The guns, however, felt awesome. I spawned with an assault rifle, shotgun and a magnum. The magnum felt so powerful and it was. I  Knocked a bloke clean off his feet with one shot to the chest. I tried out the assault rifle and shotgun but neither had the same kind of sound or vibration in the controller.

So, I found myself using the magnum for most of the time that I played.

We’ll all have to until February to find out if the final shipped product looks and plays as well as it did at PAX. That and work out if dynamite fishing will work.

Far Cry 5 will be available on February 27, 2018.

If I had to relate myself to any one person, it would be Jodie Highroller aka the Aquaberry Rapper aka Riff Raff..... If Riff Raff was a middle class, mid twenties Australian Bloke who drank VB like it was water. I love art, music and games. Although I am bad at all 3 of them =)
