Broken Roads, the post-apocalyptic, isometric Aussie RPG has a release date and it’s soon

Australian independent studio Drop Bear Bytes and publisher Versus Evil have announced that the isometric RPG Broken Roads is releasing for PC and Xbox Series X|S on November 14, 2023.

Per Drop Bear Bytes and Versus Evil, Broken Roads is “a narrative-driven RPG that brings exploration, strategic turn-based combat and meaningful philosophical choices to an all-new Australian post-apocalyptic setting. Broken Roads skillfully blends traditional and all-new role-playing elements on top of a classless system offering near-unlimited character development options built around four philosophies: Humanist, Utilitarian, Machiavellian, and Nihilist.”

Drop Bear Bytes recreated locations by visiting landmarks and towns in Western Australia, taking photos, videos and audio recordings in order to make the game as authentic as possible.

Broken Roads

Rather than offer players a black-and-white or binary view of morality, Broken Roads employs the Moral Compass. “Broken Roads’ unique morality system is based on four areas of moral philosophy: Utilitarianism, Nihilism, Machiavellianism and Humanism. In a 360-degree chart of possible options, players are able to choose from those within a certain range of their character’s core alignment. Your decisions and dialogue options will shift your leaning and thus alter your possible range of future choices.”

Craig Ritchie, Game Director at Drop Bear Bytes said, “With Broken Roads we wanted to make a deep, cerebral RPG full of difficult situations that really test what players are comfortable with. We also set out to create a fully immersive experience based on real-world Australia, so a ton of work went into creating an authentic vision of this post-apocalyptic wasteland. Broken Roads may be set in the dusty Western Australian outback, but we wanted to ensure that it’s also got its share of compassion, empathy and humanity.”

Steve Escalante, General Manager of Versus Evil said, “RPGs are deeply embedded into the Versus Evil DNA and Broken Roads is among the best we’ve seen. We are pumped to get ready to launch Broken Roads to the masses and are confident it will strike a chord with fans of Disco Elysium and Pillars of Eternity. Enjoy!”

Broken Roads is launching for PC and Xbox Series X|S on November 14, 2023.
