Borderlands 3 – New enemies in second DLC will challenge you in different ways

With today’s announcement of Borderlands 3’s second DLC — Guns, Love & Tentacles — Gearbox confirmed some of the new content available. Speaking to Anthony Nicholson, Gearbox’s Head of DLC Production, in an Australian exclusive interview, we learned that this DLC will give Borderlands 3 new enemies that will present a different challenge to players.

Asking Nicholson if this DLC introduced any new mechanics or new ways to play he said that aside from some enemies, nothing in Guns, Love & Tentacles fundamentally changes how the game plays. He did say though that there are “a lot of new enemies.”

With these new enemies comes new gameplay, new strategies and new ways to interact.

Borderlands 3 New Enemies

As this DLC features a Lovecraftian, Cthulhu mythos theme and aesthetic, the new enemies include designs with tentacles, eyeballs and some other interesting elements that would otherwise not fit in Borderlands 3. Additionally, Nicholson said that these new enemies do some really cool things during combat.

There are a couple of them that do some cool things when they play off of each other. You’ll have to strategise and take out one before conquering the other one.

There are some new move suites where there are some shielded guys that require you to ttack the shield a certain way that’ll give an opening and then their combat kind of changes.

When it comes to Lovecraft and Cthulhu, sanity, or rather insanity, usually plays a large role. In Borderlands 3, there are six damage types; Kinetic, Fire, Corrosive, Shock, Cryo and Radiation. I asked Nicholson if these new enemy types would deal damage in a new way or affect player’s sanity as a new elemental type. He said, “That is something that you will have to wait and see.”

Since he didn’t flat out deny it, we’re pretty confident that some form of new damage type or elemental damage will be introduced in Guns, Love & Tentacles and that it will relate to the Lovecraftian themes and aesthetics.

For more information on these new enemies, we’ll have to wait until Gearbox is ready to share.

Guns, Love & Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainright and Hammerlock is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One on March 26, 2020.
