Fast & Furious 9 trailer introduces Dom’s brother and sees the return of Han

Universal dropped the Fast & Furious 9 trailer today and it is so full of action you’ll need to strap yourself in. The trailer focuses on Vin Diesel’s Dom as it foreshadows something coming his way. That something is John Cena’s Jakob, Dom’s brother, master thief, assassin and high-performance driver. He’s spent his life working to be better than Dom and now, Charlize Theron’s Cipher wants Dom dead by Jakob’s hand.

The trailer also shows the return of Han, who’s been presumed dead since Fast & Furious 6. It’s promising justice for Han, whatever that means.

The usual cast of characters is back again, though it was surprising to see Hellen Mirren pop-up in the trailer for a moment.

Fast & Furious 9 Trailer

The official synopsis reads;

No matter how fast you are, no one outruns their past.

Summer 2020 is the time for F9, the ninth chapter in the saga that has endured for almost two decades and has earned more than $5 billion around the world.

Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who also happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena, next year’s The Suicide Squad).

Justin Lin returns as director having previously directed the thirds, fourth, fifth and sixth films in The Fast Saga. Fast & Furious 9 is a globetrotting film, taking place in Londo, Tokyo, Central America, Edinburgh and Azerbaijan.

While the trailer is action-packed — check out the magnet plane — it is missing Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs. Whether he appears in the film or not, remains to be seen.

In addition to Vin Diesel and John Cena, Fast & Furious 9 stars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel and Sung Kang, Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.

Cardi B also joins the cast as Leysa, a woman from Dom’s past.

Fast & Furious 9 will be in cinemas on May 21, 2020.
