Borderlands 3 DLC brings back Handsome Jack (sort of); launching December 19

Gearbox has revealed the first Borderlands 3 DLC pack. Titled ‘Moxxi’s Height of the Handsome Jackpot’ the DLC is launching on December 19 and is the first of four planned DLC packs for the game. Like in previous Borderlands titles, this DLC is a story-based, campaign add-on that gives players an all-new area to explore. The kicker, this new area is a derelict space station built by Borderlands 2 villain, Handsome Jack.

As president of Hyperion, Handsome Jack had almost unfettered power and a whole lot of money, so he built himself a casino, of course.

Dubbed the Handsome Jackpot, according to Gearbox it’s “the gaudiest gambling spot in the galaxy, with neon signs, slot machines, and gold statues all over the place.”

Borderlands 3 DLC

It’s not all fun and games though, the Handsome Jackpot is literally crawling with “multiple models of deadly Hyperion Loader Bots, as well as lunatic looters who’ve been trapped on board ever since Jack’s death.”

It sounds like exactly the kind of place Borderlands fans want to go. Let’s face it, the more MAYHEM, the better right?

In Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, players have been chosen by Moxxi to pull off a daring heist which will take place across multiple missions. The new content is scaled for players at level 13 but will scale up for players who are higher levels so that loot drops will be worth grabbing and so the difficulty will be appropriate.

While this Borderlands 3 DLC adds new story missions, it will also add a range of new Side Missions and Crew Challenges. Gearbox is also promising a “blast from Pandora’s past” as some of the enemies you’ll face are those who’ve outlived Handsome Jack.

Get ready to face some brand-new, never before seen enemies and crazy new bosses. It wouldn’t be a Borderlands DLC without some insanity.

To access Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot players will need to have unlocked Sanctuary III and completed the campaign’s prologue. You’ll also need to purchase the season pass or have the Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 3. If you’ve not bought Borderlands 3, Gearbox and 2K are letting you play free on PS4 and Xbox One from November 21 to 24.

While this DLC won’t launch until December 19, there’s plenty more Borderlands 3 content on the way. The next free update will be available very soon and includes the new endgame activity; Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite.

Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite will be added alongside Mayhem 4. The former is a Raid-style encounter “tuned for coordinated co-op parties of four max-level characters, with restricted respawning to make your opposition that much deadlier.”

Mayhem 4;

puts a spin Mayhem Mode by removing all player penalties and instead applying just two random modifiers: one that applies a bonus to players and one that applies a bonus to enemies. It also offers its own exclusive batch of Legendary gear that will only drop while Mayhem 4 is enabled.

In addition, the new free content update includes the following;

  • All bosses will now have dedicated loot pools so you can more efficiently farm for coveted Legendary items;
  • Maximum Bank Space will be upgraded from 50 to 300 slots; as usual, SDUs that boost your bank size can be purchased from Marcus aboard Sanctuary III;
  • A Target Dummy wearing a very familiar mask will be installed in Sanctuary III’s shooting range so you can safely test out your weapons;
  • New Vending Machines will be deployed across multiple maps;
  • Players will notice overall UI performance improvements.

Also announced alongside the DLC and the latest content update was Mayhem 2.0. This new version of Mayhem is part of a long-term plan to overhaul the system and include more UI support, different modifiers, playlists, rewards and additional levels. Gearbox is promising more info on Mayhem 2.0 in 2020.

Stay tuned as more details on Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot are revealed in the leadup to release on December 19.
