Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is Celebrating the Days of Summer

Activision and Treyarch are celebrating summer with Call of Duty Black Ops 4’s Days of Summer limited time event.

Available now across PC, PS4 and Xbox One, the Black Ops 4 Days of Summer event adds a huge amount of new and free content across all game modes. Players will find new maps and modes, characters, weapons and more.

Black Ops 4’s Days of Summer runs until July 9 on PS4 and July 16 on PC and Xbox One.

Black Ops 4 Days of Summer

To kick off Days of Summer, a community challenge is running in Black Ops 4. Players will be able to earn the Grav Assauklt Rifle for their arsenal if the community completes 15 million matches across Multiplayer, Zombies andf Blackout during Days of Summer.

The Grav Assault Rifle has been available in Zombies and Blackout for some time, however, it’s not been in Multiplayer.

Until now.

In Blackout, players couldn’t customise the Grav Assault Rifle, but if a total of 15 million matches are played, the gun will come to multiplayer with a full suite of customisations.

Part of Black Ops 4 Days of Summer is a new map; Grind. Grind was originally available as DLC for Black Ops 2 and has been added to Black Ops 4 free for all players.

Set in a Venice Beach skate park, Grind is tiny and rivals Nuketown as one of the smallest maps available.

Days of Summer is also bringing back Capture the Flag. Black Ops 4 hasn’t had CTF available at all since launch, but thankfully, it’s now made a return. Players will be able to relive the classic gameplay of CTF across Black Ops 4’s maps.

Blackout

In addition to changes across the game, Blackout, Black Ops 4’s Battle Royale mode, is getting some major changes.

The Hydro Dam is still shut down, however, the flood waters in the area have receded revealing repair and reconstruction works. Hijacked has been moored next Nuketown Island and the map is now bright, sunny and summery, matching the vibe of the event.

Cosmetic touches have been added to the map too so players can expect to see BBQs, balloons, pool toys and more. Keep your eyes open though as not everything is purely cosmetic;

  • Coolers: Check the party areas for coolers; they might contain paint cans and character-unlock items!
  • Water Balloons: Grab a 20-balloon stack as equipment and use it to deal some light damage.
  • Quacknarok: The zombies are dressed in duck floaties for some summer fun.

In addition to changes to the map, there have been a few gameplay tweaks in Blackout.

Players can hold the ‘USE’ button to reduce their time downed, see which Perks were active in their Killcam, use Outrider’s Drone and can use an Attack Helicopter in the new Blackout game mode; Ground War.

Ground War sees two teams drop onto the map. Each team or Platoon is made of squads and players are able to determine who is in their squad and platoon via on-screen markers.

Friendly platoon members are able to revive others, even if they are the last of their squad. According to Treyarch, Ground War works like this;

Each platoon can choose one of two main infiltration paths that intersect the main circle. You can drop along your team’s flight path or head directly to the enemy.

The initial circle size is around one-third of the entire main Blackout map for quick and chaotic engagement between dozens of opposing players at once!

As the mayhem continues, the circle reduces in size as normal. You’re able to redeploy if your squad is alive, right up until the final circle.

Finally, Submarine and Shipwrecked are two new locations for the Alcatraz Blackout map. The submarine is located on the north of the island and on the south side is a shipwreck players may recognise.

It wouldn’t be a complete event without some Zombie content and Days of Summer doesn’t disappoint. Zombies players will find a new Gauntlet, new elixirs and new weapons.

The Labours of Hercules Gauntlet takes place on Ancient Evil and is a 30-round test of survival. The new elixirs are;

  • Perkaholic: Grants the players all the Perks in the map.
  • Near Death Experience: Revive (or be revived) simply by being in close proximity to other players. Revived players keep all their loadout perks after being revived.
  • Shopping Free: Instantly activated and all purchases are free for one minute.
  • Reign Drops: This drop spawns one of each of the nine core power ups (Nuke, Death Machine, Double Points, Fire Sale, Insta-Kill, Random Perk Bottle, Max Ammo, Carpenter, Personal Points).

New weapons include the Peacekeeper, Ballistic Knife, Rampage, VAPR, Switchblade and Spitfire.

There’s a hell of a lot going on in Black Ops 4 during Days of Summer so make sure you check it out. Available now on PS4, PC and Xbox One.

Days of Summer ends on July 9 on PS4 and July 16 on PC and Xbox One.
