Borderlands 3 will not feature microtransactions

During the hands-off presentation for Borderlands 3 at the gameplay reveal event, Randy Pitchford said that Borderlands 3 will not feature any microtransactions.

As microtransactions have become more and more common in AAA, full-priced video games it was reassuring to hear Pitchford say that they won’t be included.

Pitchford said that Borderlands 3 will see paid DLC and will be curated and updated post-release. But he reiterated that it will not be ‘fee to pay’ nor will it include microtransactions.

Borderlands 3 Microtransactions

In Borderlands 3, players are able to use the Quick Change Machine to customise their character with;

  • Heads
  • Skins
  • Colours
  • Emotes
  • ECHO Skins
  • ReSpec of Skill Tree

It would have been really simple for Gearbox to tie microtransactions to this or even to the customisation of vehicles, but thankfully that’s not what’s happened.

Fans may have worried about Borderlands 3 microtransactions due to publisher 2K’s use of them in other titles like NBA 2K. Thankfully, there’s nothing to worry about with Borderlands 3.

Borderlands 3 will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on September 13.

Leo Stevenson attended the Borderlands 3 gameplay event in Los Angeles, California as a guest of 2K. Flights, accommodation and meals were provided by 2K.
