ToeJam and Earl Back in the Groove will funk you up in March 2019

Do you remember those funkadelic aliens ToeJam and Earl? First appearing on the SEGA Megadrive, ToeJam and Earl was a game starring the titular alien rappers after crash-landing on planet Earth.

Remembered fondly, ToeJam and Earl went on to star in two more titles;  ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron and ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth for Megadrive and Xbox respectively.

It’s been 16 years since ToeJam and Earl last travelled to Earth and now they’re coming back in their fourth game; ToeJam and Earl Back in the Groove. Developed by HumaNature Studios, headed up by ToeJam and Earl creator Greg Johnson, Back in the Groove is headed your way in March 2019.

ToeJam and Earl Back in the Groove

Having borrowed the Rapmaster Rocket in an attempt to impress Latisha and Lewander, ToeJam and Earl find themselves stuck on earth again. Not wanting to get in any trouble, the two alien troublemakers are on a quest to collect their broken ship and head back to Funkotron before anyone is any the wiser.

Back in the Groove is procedurally generated and will present players with levels that need to be solved before moving on. Each of the levels will include special presents like Rocket Skates, Icarus Wings and Boomboxes as well as unlockable hats that power up the twosome.

The final game will include over 60 presents and 50 different types of human hell-bent on causing ToeJam and Earl all manner of trouble. Four players will be able to play together online, with couch co-op supporting two players at a time on console and four on PC.

Johnson said;

ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove! is what I’ve been wanting to do for the series for over 20 years.

We’ve included pretty much all of the original ‘old skool’ characters and presents, and we have a TRUCKLOAD of new surprises, many of them fan-inspired. I think we’ve captured the spirit of the original game, as well as a lot of what people loved about game two. I think this is what our fans have been waiting for. I can’t wait to see what they think!

Back in the Groove is coming to PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One on March 1, 2019.

I've been playing games for the past 27 years and have been writing for almost as long. Combining two passions in the way I'm able is a true privilege. PowerUp! is a labour of love and one I am so excited to share.
