Razer announces all-new PlayStation peripherals

Razer today announced two new officially licensed controllers for the PlayStation 4 and a wireless gaming headset. The Razer Raiju Ultimate, Razer Raiju Tournament Edition and Razer Thresher are all now available.

The Razer Raiju Ultimate and Raiju Tournament Edition are similar to the excellent Razer Wolverine Ultimate and Tournament Edition controllers for Xbox.

Both Raijus bring pro-gaming customisation to PlayStation owners with a wealth of options to meet specific gamers needs. The key difference between the two controllers is the interchangeable thumbsticks, D-pad and Razer Chroma lighting effects exclusive to the Razer Raiju Ultimate.

Razer Raiju

Both Razer Raiju controllers have feature parity beyond that. With a larger chassis design closer to an Xbox One controller than the DualShock 4, both have Razer’s Mecha-Tactile Action Buttons for extra clickiness and responsiveness and four remappable buttons.

These can be customised with a new dedicated mobile app allowing you to change controller settings on the fly. All of these different customizations can be stored in up to 500 different user profiles.

The Razer Raiju also has adjustable thumbstick sensitivity allowing for greater precision shots or speedy response. Each controller also includes trigger stops which allow for quicker firing. Especially handy for first-person shooters.

The thing that is most exciting about the new Raiju controllers is their wireless connectivity options. Traditionally, Razer has kept its controllers wired only, citing faster response as the reasoning.

It seems that Razer has listened to the pleas of more casual gamers who prefer wireless controllers. The Raiju have three connectivity modes via a built-in switch for an easy transition between PS4, Bluetooth, USB and PC Bluetooth modes.

Razer Thresher

Razer also announced the new Razer Thresher for PS4. Users can choose between a 2.4ghz wireless connection via a USB Dongle with up to 40 feet or a 3.5mm wired connection to a control pad, Razer promises up to 16 hours of battery life.

The Thresher also features a retractable unidirectional boom microphone with mic-monitoring to allow you to hear yourself in-game chat. Party chat is a breeze with mic controls placed on the ear cup.

These ear cups have large leatherette ear cushions with memory foam that conforms to the gamers head. Razer Threshers are renowned for their excellent comfort. The sound is provided by powerful 50mm Neodymium drivers with a wide frequency range of 12 Hz to 28,000 Hz for rumbling bass and crisp highs.

The Razer Thresher is also compatible with Nintendo Switch, PC and other devices via 3.5mm connection making it an extremely versatile headset for gamers with multiple platforms.

The Razer Raiju are not exactly cheap, retailing at almost three times a standard DualShock 4. We love the Razer Wolverine Tournament Edition for Xbox and look forward to reviewing these new controllers to give you the full breakdown.
