Brand-new Overwatch Animated Short coming out tomorrow

Blizzard has announced today that a brand-new Overwatch Animated Short will be released tomorrow night. The Overwatch Animated Shorts are pre-rendered videos that give fans an in-depth look at one of the heroes in the game.

So far, eight heroes have been the subject of an Animated Short. Each video has been incredibly well received with fans lapping up the additions to the lore and fleshing out of their favourite characters.

With so many heroes now included in Overwatch, Blizzard must have a really tough time choosing who to focus on next. So let’s speculate wildly.

Overwatch Animated Short

Of the eight Animated Shorts released so far, many of them focus on one or more characters. In these shorts we’ve seen;

  • Winston
  • Widowmaker and Tracer
  • Hanzo and Genji
  • Soldier 76
  • Bastion
  • Sombra (Reaper & Widowmaker)
  • Mei
  • Reinhardt and Brigitte

With those eight videos, we’ve seen 12 of the 28 heroes in action. There have also been a few unofficial animated shorts including the Junkrat and Roadhog video that accompanied the release of Junkertown, Wreckingball’s introduction video and Doomfist’s short backstory.

Of the original heroes, there are many who’ve still not had a time in the spotlight so it’s tough to choose who may be starring in the next video. However, D.VA is one of the most popular heroes yet to appear at all. The same can be said for Zarya, Pharah, Lucio, Mercy and Zenyatta.

Only one of the new heroes, Sombra, has starred in their own Animated Short too, which suggests that a second may be overdue.

While I’d love to see an Animated Short focus on Moira or Wrecking Ball, I’d bet that we’re going to see a D.VA or Zarya video tomorrow night.

The next Overwatch Animated Short will be available to watch from 8 pm AEST, August 22. Catch up on the previous ones below.
