Shadow of the Tomb Raider will run at 4K, 60fps on Xbox One X

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is going to run at 4K/60fps on Xbox One X, at least according to the developer. Eidos Montreal’s David Anfossi said that with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the team has been working hard to “exploit the maximum potential of the Xbox One X.”

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is being developed concurrently for PC, PS4 and Xbox One and Anfossi claims that each platform will be fully optimised.

Despite moving away from the timed-exclusivity of Rise of the Tomb Raider, Anfossi speaks as though the Xbox One is the lead platform for the latest entry. “We speak about playing on the Xbox One X,” he said, “but playing the game on Xbox One S, we’re also pushing the envelope.”

Anfossi goes on to say he believes Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be the “most beautiful game on Xbox One S.”

Shadow of the Tomb Raider 4K 60FPS

Anfossi was keen to stress just how much power Eidos Montreal was able to squeeze out of the Xbox One X. The team developed a brand-new lighting system and a new rendering system for characters in the game.

That’s not all. Anfossi claims that on Xbox One X, there is a scene that will blow people away.

“I can’t reveal too much, but at some point, you will have 155 NPCs on screen at the same time with 4K and 60fps,” he said adding “We had to push a lot of things on the engine and the new systems we broke in on this game.”

Anfossi stopped short of confirming whether the 4K resolution is native or whether it would extend to the PS4 Pro. He also didn’t state if the 60fps is locked for either console.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on September 14, 2018.
