Report – Ice Climbers to return to Super Smash Bros Switch along with a 2-Player Story Mode

One, or maybe two, of Super Smash Bros. favourite fighters, may be coming to Super Smash Bros Switch. That’s if a new rumour can be believed.

According to Marcus SellarsSuper Smash Bros Switch will see the return of the Ice Climbers.

Ice Climbers originally appeared in Super Smash Bros Melee on Gamecube and also featured in Brawl on Wii. However, the pair were absent from Super Smash Bros on 3DS and Wii U.

Super Smash Bros Switch Ice Climbers

Just how credible is this rumour?

Sellars is a videogame journalist who has correctly revealed information ahead of time on several occasions recently. He said that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 would be this year’s Call of Duty and that it would be set in modern times.

Sellars also claimed that a Switch version of Black Ops 4 would be released, but thus far that doesn’t seem accurate. And while we aren’t sure as to when Black Ops 4 is set, in all likelihood, Sellars is right.

He also correctly announced that Dark Souls Remaster would be revealed and that it would be coming to Switch. He also correctly predicted that date of the most recent Nintendo Direct.

What’s coming to Smash Bros Switch

Now that we know Sellars is at least somewhat credible, let’s take a look at his claims.

Sellars says that in Super Smash Bros Switch, Ice Climbers will make a return in addition to a 2-player story mode. He also says that there are “many third parties” in the Switch version.

Presumably, he means third party characters.

The prospect of having the Ice Climbers back in Super Smash Bros Switch is certainly an exciting one. As is having the 2-player story mode. Super Smash Bros Brawl was the last game in the series to feature a story mode; the excellent Subspace Emissary.

As for third party characters, it seems highly likely that Nintendo will include the third party characters from the Wii U version if licensing deals can be arranged.

Third Party Characters

Characters like Cloud, Bayonetta, Ryu, Pac-Man and Mega Man all have their very own amiibo and it would certainly make a lot of sense for Nintendo to have these characters included.

As for other potential third party characters, well the list is almost endless. I will say this though, with his very own amiibo, I’d be surprised if Shovel Knight didn’t make an appearance. We also might be lucky and see Yooka and Laylee on the roster.

While nothing is concrete at the moment, I’d be willing to bet that Sellars is correct regarding the Ice Climbers and 2-player story mode.

Stay tuned, we’ll bring you all the Super Smash Bros Switch news we find.
