Hearthstone March of the Lich King is live

Hearthstone’s latest expansion, March of the Lich King, is now live. In addition to new cards, mechanics and keywords, March of the Lich King adds the 11th playable class; Death Knight.

Blizzard said, “Follow Arthas Menethil’s journey as he becomes the iconic Warcraft villain, the Lich King, through the Death Knight prologue.” March of the Lich King adds a whopping 203 new cards, the new Undead minion type and the Manathirst keyword.

A special launch event celebrating Death Knight kicks off today and runs for two weeks. “Complete daily Event Quests to earn Event XP on a special Event reward track. Plus, stay tuned for a Winter Veil Event in the coming weeks!”

Players jumping into Hearthstone today will be greeted by a short prologue, introducing the Death Knight. Completing the prologue will unlock the Death Knight and 32 unique core cards. “All Death Knight heroes will be equipped with Ghoul Charge, a hero power which summons a 1/1 Ghoul with Charge that dies at the end of the turn. Plus, even your dead minions will be cause for celebration, as they play a pivotal role in powering up specific cards requiring Corpses.” Death Knight shakes up the meta of Hearthstone in a pretty big way with its three Runes: Blood, Frost and Unholy. Choosing Runes will determine which cards can and can’t be added to the Death Knight deck, almost giving you three new classes in one.

Alongside Death Knight is the new Undead minion type. As per Blizzard, “Hundreds of minions from previous expansions have been updated retroactively with the Undead tag (with some minions even sporting dual types), and the Reborn keyword is returning as an evergreen mechanic.” The new keyword Manathirst sees cards grow more powerful as you reach certain mana thresholds.

NEW CLASS: DEATH KNIGHT

  • 68 new class cards, including 32 free Core Set cards, and special Path of Arthas bundle (33.95 AUD / 39.99 NZD).
  • Hero Power: Ghoul Charge
    • Summon a 1/1 Ghoul with Charge that dies at the end of the turn.
  • New Resource: Corpses
    • Every time a friendly minion dies it’s counted as a Corpse.
  • Deckbuilding System: Runes
    • Blood for control gameplay with health manipulation.
    • Frost for direct damage with icy spells.
