The Callisto Protocol launch trailer has arrived and…just hook it up to my veins

Striking Distance Studios has unleased the launch trailer for Dead Space 4 The Callisto Protocol and, the survival horror fan inside me has just gotten very excited. The Callisto Protocol is being helmed by Dead Space and Call of Duty veteran Glenn Schofield and the inspiration is pretty effing obvious.

Clearly, a spiritual successor to Dead Space, which Schofield created, The Callisto Protocol’s launch trailer gives us a great look at some gameplay, environments and enemies. Set on Jupiter’s dead moon Callisto in 2302, The Callisto protocol takes place on a mining prison ship (the Black Iron) after the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns people into walking blancmanges…with teeth and spiky giblets.

While the trailer is clearly a cinematic affair, set to “Lost Again” by Kings Elliot, we can see the lack of HUD, information being displayed on weapons or the suit, crafting, melee and ranged combat and more.

It’s honestly impossible not to compare The Callisto Protocol and Dead Space, but since Schofield created both, we’re gonna let it slide. Plus, Dead Space has lied dormant for too long and The Callisto Protocol looks like a worthy contender for the sci-fi, Cronenberg, survival horror crown.

The Callisto Protocol

Aside from the deliciously disgusting body-horror and survival horror mechanics shown off in trailer, we also get to feast our eyes on professional handsome guy Josh Duhamel. Duhamel stars as playable character and legit snack Jacob Lee alongside Karen Fukuhara (The Boys) as Dani Nakamura and Sam Witwer as Leon Ferris. The star power is certainly something that elevates The Callisto Protocol and lends it an extra level of hype.

The character models also look incredible. Sweaty but incredible.

Alongside the launch trailer, a special podcast, The Callisto Protocol: Helix Station is streaming wherever podcasts are available and at https://the-callisto-protocol-helix-station.simplecast.com/. The podcast is “a prequel to the events in The Callisto Protocol, following two skip tracers who face unimaginable horrors while on a lucrative, perilous bounty on the derelict Helix Station in the Jovian system.”

The podcast stars Gwendoline Christie and Michael Ironside.

Wrap your looking gear around The Callisto Protocol launch trailer and your listening gear around the podcast. The Callisto Protocol launches for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on December 2, 2022.
