Cowboy Bebop’s official trailer is perfection

Netflix has just released the official trailer for its live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. Starring Spike Spiegel (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) the live-action version of the seminal anime has been a long time coming and, thankfully, it looks like it’s going to be great.

The trailer does an excellent job of showing the (potential) tone of the show as one that’s both deadly serious and ridiculously light-hearted when it needs to be; “Please, I just want to kill her a little…”

Interestingly, it seems as though many characters from the anime have been recreated in the live-action version, though the creators have previously said Cowboy Bebop won’t be a 1-to-1 recreation of the anime. Let’s hope so.

Cowboy Bebop

In the trailer, we catch a glimpse of Julia, Vicious, Katerina, Tamara Tunie’s Ana, Pierrot Le Fou, Maria Murdock and more. We’re also given a look at some of the locations the crew of the bebop will be travelling to and we get to see some glimpses of Ein.

We’ve still not seen anything of Radical Edward and I’m convinced she won’t appear in this season. If she does, it’s a very well kept secret and will be an awesome surprise.

Aside from the characters and tone being absolutely spot-on, the visuals seem to be perfect as well. Cowboy Bebop is looking to avoid the mistake of making an anime too dark and serious by focusing on the lighter elements and being bright, colourful and a bit silly.

Also, the soundtrack by Yoko Kanno still fucking slaps.

So far, so good. Now we simply need to wait until November 19, when Cowboy Bebop launches on Netflix.

I, for one, can’t wait.

Cowboy Bebop will be streaming on Netflix on November 19, 2021.
