Warner Bros and Avalanche have announced Hogwarts Legacy, an action RPG set in the Wizarding World in the 1800s. A single-player, open-world adventure, Hogwarts Legacy will allow players to experience life as a Hogwarts student in an unwritten adventure.
Developed by Avalanche (Mad Max, Rage 2, Just Cause) Hogwarts Legacy will be available on current and next-gen consoles (excluding Switch) and PC. Warner Bros says the game is “filled with immersive magic, putting players at the centre of their adventure to become the witch or wizard they choose to be.”
Players will learn spells and combat abilities as well as choose companions to help them on their journey.

John Blackburn, Studio General Manager, Avalanche said;
It’s such an honour to work on such an amazing franchise and the team is dedicated to delivering an authentic Wizarding World experience that both Harry Potter and RPG fans will enjoy. Hogwarts Legacy is so special because it allows players to immerse themselves in a new narrative that is filled with complex characters, and, of course, magic.
In the teaser trailer, released alongside the announcement, fans can glimpse the world Avalanche has built for Hogwarts Legacy including open areas, Hogwarts Castle, fantastic beasts, spell casting and more. There’s even a nod to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ flying Ford Anglia.
In addition to Hogwarts, players will also be able to explore the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village.
On the official website for Hogwarts Legacy, Warner Bros has set up an FAQ for the game. In it, there are two questions related to J.K. Rowling and her involvement in Hogwarts Legacy. Both downplay her contributions and oversight of the game, which certainly seems like a way for Hogwarts Legacy to distance itself from the controversial and offensive opinions Rowling has published on Twitter of late.
Hogwarts Legacy will be available in 2021.
