Mario makes his mark at the end of 2016

Mario is well and truly trying to tie up the last few months of 2016 for himself.

Over the weekend both Paper Mario: Colour Splash for Wii U and Mario Party: Star Rush for 3DS were released. Colour Splash sees a return of the Paper Mario franchise with Mario tasked with saving Prism Island by recovering the missing Big Paint Stars and stopping all colour being drained.

Mario Party: Star Rush is a reinvention of the Mario Party franchise with simultaneous play and Party Guest which lets up to four players play with just one copy of the game. Accompanying Star Rush are seven new amiibo. Out now re Donkey Kong, Wario, Rosalina and glow-in-the-dark Boo. From November 5 Diddy Kong, Daisy and Waluigi will all be available.

Come December, the first ever Super Mario Bros. title developed exclusively for mobile will be released for iOS. Super Mario Run tasks players with tapping on screen to jump obstacles, enemies and more; all while Mario runs forward automatically. A portion of Super Mario Run will be free and to access the full experience a cost will be charged. The price is not yet known.

Also releasing in December for 3DS is the Wii U title Super Mario Maker. Including nearly a like-for-like experience with the Wii U version, Super Mario Maker on 3DS lets players create all manner of Super Mario courses on the go. Courses created on the 3DS can’t be shared, but courses created on Wii U can be downloaded and played on the 3DS.

Finally, the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System will be available to purchase from November 10. This miniturised NES comes with 30 pre-installed classic games including Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., Dr. Mario and Super Mario Bros 1, 2 and 3.
