When Apple killed the headphone jack a few years ago, it ushered in the age of wireless headphones and earbuds. And now the emphasis has shifted from cutting the wires to noise cancellation. Sennheiser are not oblivious to this and that’s why we have the new True Wireless 2.
The first generation of True Wireless came out last year with high praise for their signature Sennheiser sound quality. Criticisms were aimed at the weak battery and finicky controls.
Sennheiser looks to have addressed those concerns in the new update.
True Wireless 2
The True Wireless 2 boast 7 hours of battery which can be extended to 28 hours by charging through the carry case. This is a huge improvement over the 4-hour listening and extended 12 hours via the case of the previous model.
What’s even more impressive is that Sennheiser has managed to make the True Wireless 2’s 2 mm smaller and 1 mg lighter than their predecessor. This will ensure a better fit in the ear that’s more comfortable for long periods. In fact, Sennheiser has improved the Transparent Hearing feature which blends outside ambient sound at a touch so you can have a conversation without ever needing to remove the buds.
The True Wireless 2, of course, have Active Noise Cancellation so you can block out the noisy kids while you’re trying to work from home. And thanks to the 7 mm dynamic drivers, you’ll enjoy deep bass, natural mids and detailed trebles that Sennheisers are renowned for. You can further tune the sound to your liking with the bundled Smart Control App.
Speaking of controls, the True Wireless 2 have improved touch controls which you can customize to your liking. And with a slight touch, you can activate Google Assistant or Apple Siri. Another handy feature is the Smart Pause that puts your music on hold when you remove the earbuds and resumes when you put them back.
The True Wireless 2 is IPX4 rated for sweat and splash resistant which will be good for people who want to work out with them. They also use Bluetooth 5.1 and support SBC, AAC and aptX codecs for high-fidelity audio from compatible devices.
The Momentum True Wireless 2 comes in a slick metallic finish with the iconic Sennheiser spin design and gold-plate charging pins. They will come in two colours, classic black edition and a new stylish white with coordinating fabric finishes on the slim charging case.
The one thing Sennheiser hasn’t improved on is the price. Like last years model which was quite expensive, the Momentum True Wireless 2 will retail for AUD$499 and will be available in April for the black ones. The white edition will become available later in the year.
