The Mighty Ducks series is coming to Disney+ starring Lauren Graham

Disney has announced that a 10-episode sequel series to The Mighty Ducks will premiere on Disney+. Set to begin production this month in Vancouver, The Mighty Ducks is a sequel to the 90s film series. Disney also announced that Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) will star in the series. Graham will portray Alex with Brady Noon appearing as her son Evan.

Set in present-day Minnesota, The Mighty Ducks team has become a competitive powerhouse. However, when Evan is cut from the team, Alex decides to create a new, ragtag team to take on the Ducks.

The Mighty Ducks

The original creator, writer and producer of the three films, Steve Brill, is a co-creator and executive producer on The Mighty Ducks series. Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa are co-creators and will serve as showrunners.

In the films, the Mighty Ducks begin as a down on their luck team with no chance of winning. Eventually, with the help of coach Gordon Bombay, they become state champions. The Ducks go on to play in the Junior Goodwill games and eventually defeat Iceland to become world champions.

Finally, in D3, the team attends Eden Hall Academy and eventually become the school’s official varsity hockey team.

It’s interesting to put the Ducks in the role as the “villains” in this sequel series and hopefully, it retains the positivity of the original films.

The Mighty Ducks will stream on Disney+.
