Plantronics makes some excellent gaming headsets at very affordable prices but has only ever had one wireless model, the RIG 800, in its line up for several years. Now, Plantronics has finally released the RIG 700 to meet the ever-growing demand for wireless headsets.
Like all RIG headsets which are primarily targeted at esports athletes who have lengthy gameplay sessions, the RIG 700 maintains the same excellent build in an ultra-lightweight exoskeletal frame that weighs an impressive 241g.
“With its durable, ultra-lightweight design and long battery life, the new RIG 700 Series provides the best experience for gamers,” said Peter Petrides, Director of Gaming APAC, Plantronics.
Although most RIG headsets are wired, the RIG 700 is a fully wireless headset with a 12-hour battery life. This isn’t as impressive as something like the LucidSound LS41 which boasts 15 hours but should still be adequate for most players needs.
However, the RIG 700’s have an effective range of 30 feet from the included wireless base.
The RIG 700 boasts a fully wireless and detachable noise-cancelling microphone, something Xbox owners will be happy to hear as only headsets using proprietary Xbox wireless protocol have that privilege. Additionally, the RIG 700 has Mic monitoring that can be easily adjusted using the handy on-ear Game/ Chat balance dial.
As for sound, Plantronics is great at producing a crystal clear sound with decent bass and the RIG 700’s look like they continue the trend. The 40mm high-sensitivity drivers with Bass Tubes promise ‘substantial bass’ improvement over predecessors. The RIG 700’s are also Windows Sonic compatible which means Xbox and PC gamers can enjoy virtual surround sound.
The RIG 700 is available in three configurations; Playstation (HS), Xbox (HX) and Windows PC (HD) and will ship in a variety of colours and patterns. You can buy the RIG 700 at JB Hi-FI, EB Games and other retailers for $199.95. For more information, check out the Plantronics website.
