Control Guide – What are Board Countermeasures?

So you’ve been playing Control but you have no idea what these Board Countermeasures are. Not to worry. That’s why we’re here. Board Countermeasures are unique challenges that remain active in the background while you go about the business of playing the game.

For example, one Board Countermeasure in Control requires you to defeat 50 enemies without dying. If you do so, you’ll be rewarded with a Mod — personal or Service Weapon — and can the select a new Countermeasure.

Board Countermeasures are a great way to get Weapon and Personal Mods in addition to teaching you how to use different weapon forms and abilities. It’s an extra layer of meta-game that helps make Control even more enjoyable.

Board Countermeasures Control

You can access Board Countermeasures at any Control Point in the Oldest House. Simply navigate to the menu item and you’ll see a screen similar to the one above.

From here you can select up to three Countermeasures to make active, abandon any active Countermeasures and claim any completed ones. You’ll want to make sure you always have three active Board Countermeasures at any given time and you should try and group them with likes ones to be able to complete multiple at the same time.

By no means are Board Countermeasures required for you to complete Control, however, when you gain access to them — the same time you’re able to level up — it gives you a small boost in power and helps you get through the game.

It’s best to turn them in as you complete them and try to get through as many as possible to build up your stockpile of mods and/or turn them into source which you can use to upgrade your weapon.

Control is available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
