Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts ditches open-world in favour of missions

CI Games is back with another entry in the Sniper Ghost Warrior series. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts is being called a “return-to-form” for the series by CI games as it ditches an open-world in favour of “intense mission-based contracts system.” Set in the Siberian wilderness, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts aims to perfect the series’ sniper gameplay.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts has been designed with a “puzzle box approach” that give players the chance to complete open-ended missions in a variety of ways.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts

The previous game in the series, Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, was set in an open-world and suffered numerous delays and was a bit of a technical mess on launch.

CEO of CI Games Marek Tymiñski said at the time that Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 “was just too ambitious versus what we could have been able to deliver in any reasonable amount of time.”

Tymiñski has reiterated this again with the announcement of Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts;

We were too ambitious in terms of the scope of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, but we’ve learned from our missteps. Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts will be more focused on emergent gameplay with an open-ended mission design that the team feels strong about, but it will not be set in an open world.

It is going to be a more tactical, more condensed experience and the game will offer plenty of replayability, both on the single-player campaign and on the multiplayer modes

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2019.
