Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers – FATEs will reward players with more than just EXP

While in attendance at the Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers preview event in London, I was given an overview of the content coming to the MMO. In addition, Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida gave some detailed information regarding changes coming to the game.

One of the most interesting of these is the changes coming to Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers FATEs.

Up until now, in A Realm Reborn, Heavensward and Stormblood, FATEs all functioned in the same way. Players could enter an area on the field and engage in a public event. These public events would require players to sync their level and would reward EXP on completion.

In Shadowbringers, things are changing.

Shadowbringers FATEs

Players will still need to sync their level to join FATEs and they’ll still appear on the field for any random players to tackle. However, in Shadowbringers, FATEs won’t just reward EXP.

Instead, by completing additional requirements and special objectives during the FATE, players will be rewarded with Tokens. These Tokens are able to be traded for special items at shops in The Crystarium.

Examples of the Tokens include Butterfly Specimens, Lorikeet Eggs, Lorikeet Feathers, Green Glider Skin and more.

These revamped Shadowbringers FATEs will also give players additional lore, which is handy since The First is a whole new realm. While FATEs in Shadowbringers will feature these new changes, it won’t affect those in other parts of the game.

Don’t expect to complete a FATE within content outside of Shadowbringers and earn Tokens. Hopefully these changes will be rolled out more widely but for now, they’re exclusive to Shadowbringers.
