10 More Games Announced for the SEGA Mega Drive Mini

SEGA has announced 10 more titles coming to the Mega Drive Mini. Some of the biggest games that ever appeared on the Mega Drive are included as part of the mini console and will join the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Ecco the Dolphin and Castlevania: Bloodlines.

The Mega Drive Mini is based on the “original Model 1 Mega Drive which launched in Oct. 1988 in Japan” and is only 55% the size of the original. The mini console will include 40 games, of which we know 20 of them.

All of the games are being ported by M2 who is a developer well known for emulation and ports of classic games.

The 10 newly announced games today are;

  • Castle of Illusion
  • World of Illusion
  • Thunder Force III
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • Shinobi III
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Landstalker

Many gamers will have fond memories of Castle of Illusion and EarthwormJim; two of the best platformers of their time. This second batch of 10 announced titles also includes Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

The previously announced titles are;

  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Space Harrier 2
  • Shining Force
  • Dr Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • ToeJam & Earl
  • Comix Zone
  • Altered Beast
  • Gunstar Heroes

At launch, the Mega Drive Mini will cost $139.95 AUD and it will include the mini console, 40 games and two replica Mega Drive controllers.

It will be available on September 19, 2019.
