Ubisoft is giving away Assassin’s Creed Unity free on PC following the Notre-Dame fire

In Ubisoft’s own words

In light of the devastating fire at the Notre Dame de Paris, Ubisoft wants to give all gamers the chance to experience the majesty and beauty of the cathedral through Assassins Creed Unity on PC.

From April 18, 2019 (in your local time) through to April 25, 2019, 5 pm, Assassin’s Creed Unity will be free to download on PC via Uplay. Those who get the free version will be able to keep it forever.

Ubisoft also announced the giveaway on Twitter writing;

In solidarity with everyone moved by Monday’s events, we’re donating to the restoration for Notre-Dame & giving you the chance to play Assassin’s Creed Unity on Uplay for free.

Assassin’s Creed Unity Notre Dame

On April 15, 2019, a fire broke out in the Notre Dame cathedral causing significant damage and requiring that large parts of the building be rebuilt.

In a report from The Verge from 2014 Senior Level Designer on Assassin’s Creed Unity Caroline Miousse said that Ubisoft spent two years getting Notre Dame right. Ubisoft worked with historians, took digital scans and made sure that every single brick was in the right place.

It’s been theorised that Ubisoft’s digital scans of Notre Dame could come in handy during the rebuilding.

For now though, players can enjoy the fruits of Ubisoft’s labours free on PC by downloading Assassin’s Creed Unity via Uplay.
