Close to the Sun is the latest PC title exclusive to the Epic Games Store; releasing in May

Close to the Sun, developed by Italian studio Storm in a Teacup, has been given a release date today. It’s was previously revealed that Close to the Sun will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC. Players are able to pre-purchase Close to the Sun today on the Epic Games Store for £24.99, with €29.99 in most European countries and $29.99 in North America.

While Close to the Sun will release exclusively on the Epic Games Store in May, it will come to PS4 and Xbox One later in 2019.

Close to the Sun’s Epic Games Store exclusivity was announced back in February and thanks to the move, the game’s development was moved from Unity to Unreal 4. The change in engine saw the studio receive an Unreal Development Grant just prior to signing a publishing deal with Wired Productions.

Close to the Sun Epic Games Store

Close to the Sun is set in an alternative 19th century in which Nikola Tesla succeeded in his attempts to change the world.

Set onboard the Helios “a colossal vessel for scientific research, steeped in horror and mystery. Grand halls stand empty. The stench of rotting flesh lingers in the air. Silence. A single word is painted across the entrance… QUARANTINE!”

A first-person, horror title, Close to the Sun appears to be inspired by BioShock and games of that ilk.

Leo Zullo, Managing Director, Wired Productions said;

May 2 can’t come quick enough for us.

Our partnership with the amazing team at Epic Games has not only accelerated the development process of Close to the Sun in terms of accessing the sheer pixel-pushing grunt of Unreal Engine 4, but allowed the incredibly talented Storm in a Teacup team to showcase their collective talents to deliver a truly memorable and breathtaking first-person horror adventure.

A release date for PS4 and Xbox One has not yet been announced, but the PC version will be released on May 2, 2019.
