Joker, from Persona 5, is the first DLC fighter coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Joker was announced in December as the first of five upcoming DLC fighters.
The trailer that announced Joker’s arrival featured an animated version of the character, but not one that was rendered in the Smash Bros style.
Today though, thanks to Wario64 and Best Buy, we now know how Joker will appear in Smash Bros.

An ad on the Best Buy website for the Fighter’s Pass revealed a render of Joker. It’s unclear if the image is of an in-game render or of an amiibo, but either way, it gives you an idea of how Joker is going to look.
Wearing his mask and wielding his knife, Joker looks exactly how you’d expect and certainly fits in with the Smash Bros Ultimate aesthetic.
When Joker was announced, Reggie Fils-Aime had a few words for fans.
This gives you a flavor of how we’re approaching the DLC.
There’s going to be five characters. Each character will come with a stage. It’ll [also] come with a collection of music.
These are characters that are new to the series… characters that you would not anticipate to be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Later, Fils-Aime spoke with IGN and said Joker is “emblematic of the approach that Mr Sakurai and the team are taking with the DLC. He wants characters that are unique, different, to bring them into the Smash Bros. environment. So it’s going to be tremendously exciting.”
Joker is the protagonist of Persona 5 which only appears on PS3 and PS4, however, Joker does appear in Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth which has been released on 3DS in Japan.
As for Persona 5 appearing on Switch, Fils-Aime had nothing to say;
You know, I can’t comment on that. Again, from our perspective, we’ve been clear.
We want all the best content on our platform. All the best content, all the best developers. And so our job is to continue growing the install base for Nintendo Switch to drive engagement of our players, to grow the audience.
As that happens, then developers see the opportunity.
