BioWare boosts Anthem loot drop rates and this time it won’t get nerfed

In a move that will certainly have Redditors congratulating themselves, BioWare has released a fix to improve loot drop rates in beleaguered Anthem.

The game has been in the wild for over a month now and in spite of it’s multitude of bugs, the biggest complaint from players has been the stingy loot drops.

Players complained that Masterworks and especially Legendary drops were too few and far between. Some players have yet to even get a single Legendary. And even when they did drop, they often rolled with useless inscriptions like 0% damage.

Players quickly tired of grinding the same old strongholds over and over for unsatisfying rewards, causing a call to boycott with several players abandoning the game.

According to EA’s Anthem update page,  a serer side patch was pushed out some time yesterday, 15th March. This means players won’t have to download anything and will notice the changes the next time they log on to the game.

Two key changes to note are;

  • Masterwork & Legendary drop rates have been increased for Grandmaster 2 and Grandmaster 3 difficulty levels.
  • Masterwork & Legendary drop rates have been increased for harder enemies at all difficulty levels. This includes: Legendary Ancient Ash Titan, Elite Ancient Ash Titan, Legendary Fury, Legendary Ursix and Legendary Luminary.

This is definitely a welcome fix. I’ve always wondered why enemies are labelled Legendary and yet never drop any Legendary loot. And fighting Titans has always been such an unrewarding slog especially on the Grandmaster levels so it’s very nice to see that this has been addressed.

This is not the first time loot drops have increased. Twice in the past month, BioWare accidentally  increased loot drops for a few hours leading to a surge in player activity and goodwill. But then they nerfed it causing outrage in the community.

This time, though, it’s an official boost so it’s hopefully here to stay.

I’ve been playing the endgame for the past week now and so I’m eager to see how this change will affect my drop rates. I’ve been hunting for the legendary Fist of Stral Autocannon for my Colossus.

It remains to be seen if this move by BioWare will bring back players to the game, especially in the wake of the very positive Division 2 and Destin 2 Season of the Drifter.
