Lenovo Legion gaming line-up gets Savage at CES 2019

Chinese multinational giant, Lenovo, announced a range of new Lenovo Legion gaming PCs, laptops and peripherals at the recently concluded CES 2019. Lenovo is renown for its business and productivity machines like the Lenovo ThinkPad.

The Lenovo Legion brand is the company’s gaming arm and has recently been refreshed with the launch of NVIDIA’s RTX 20-series GPUs.

The line-up also includes monitors and other peripherals. Let’s get into it.

Lenovo Legion Y740 and Y540 Gaming laptops

The Lenovo Legion gaming laptops are known for their build and value for money but not necessarily their performance. Thats set to change with the new Legion Y740 and Y540, now with NVIDIA RTX 20-series graphics, 6 Core processors and loads of RGB.

The Legion Y740 headlines with RTX 2070 Max-Q in the 15-inch model while the bigger 17-inch gets an RTX 2080 Max-Q. Both models have a 144Hz FullHD display with Dolby Vision and a peak brightness of 500nits for HDR.

Both sizes come with 8th Gen Core i7 processors and up to 32GB RAM. They also get a 100% anti-ghosting, CORSAIR iCue RGB backlit keyboard. The Lenovo Legion Y740 also features Dolby Atmos speakers for a greater audio experience.

The 17-inch Lenovo Legion Y740 Laptop will start at $1,979.99 and the 15-inch model will start at $1,749.99, both are expected to be available starting February 2019.

The Lenovo Legion Y540 packs a Geforce RTX 2060 GPU, a 15-inch SDR display, and Intel Core processors into a more affordable package. It weighs a dainty 2.3Kg(5.1Lbs) and has a white, backlit keyboard with a 1ms input response time. Like the Y740, the Y540 has Dolby Atmos but this time coming through a set of Harmon-Kardon speakers.

Both the Y740 and Y540 have upgraded battery which Lenovo says will last up to six hours. Thermals are handling by Lenovo Legion Coldfront, a dual fan layout to keep things frosty.

The 15-inch Lenovo Legion Y540 Laptop will start at $929.99 and is expected to be available starting May 2019.

Lenovo Legion Y27gq and Y44w Monitors

Also announced at CES were two new gaming monitors. The Y44w is a 43.4-inch, ultra-wide curved beast of a monitor. It has a 3840×1200 resolution, 144Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 450nits.

The panel is VESA Certified DisplayHDR 400 and AMD Radeon FreeSync 2 so games will not only look awesome with HDR but also play buttery smooth.

If the Y44W is too big for your tastes(said no gamer ever), then the Y27gq could be the monitor for you. It’s a more tame 27-inches in a 2560 x 1440 QHD resolution and an obscene 240Hz refresh rate. It’s also NVIDIA G-Sync ready so paired with one of those RTX 2080s and you’ll never see a stutter in your life.

The Lenovo Legion Y27gq Monitor will start at USD $999.99 and the Lenovo Legion Y44w Monitor will start at a whopping USD $1,199.99. Both are expected to be available starting April 2019.

Lenovo Legion Gaming peripherals

Lenovo has also announced a new Legion mouse, keyboard and headset to complete your gaming setup.

Lenovo Legion M500 RGB Gaming Mouse

As powerful as the Legion Y740 and Y540 are, you can’t do serious gaming on a touchpad. Lenovo knows this and has created the M500 RGB gaming mouse. With 16,000DPi sensor and something, Lenovo calls IPS tracking precision, the accuracy with this mouse is a boon.

OMRON micro switches offer precision and additional side buttons can be customised to your preferences.

The Lenovo Legion M500 RGB Gaming Mouse will start at USD $59.99

Lenovo Legion K500 RGB Mechanical Keyboard

The K500 is a mechanical keyboard perfectly matched to the M500 gaming mouse. It has a minimalist design which focuses on ultra-fast response times thanks to red switched and anti-ghosting across the whole 104 keys.

The Lenovo Legion K500 RGB Mechanical Keyboard will start at USD $99.99

Lenovo Legion H300 and H500 Pro 7.1 Gaming Headsets

Rounding off the Legion Gaming peripherals are a pair of affordable gaming headsets. The USD $99.99 Lenovo Legion H500 Pro is a 7.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset while the USD $59.99 Lenovo Legion H300 is a stereo headset. Both headsets feature a retractable boom mic.

That’s all for Lenovo’s showing at CES 2019. What do you think?
